Anthony R. Mato, M.D., M.S.C.E.
Anthony R. Mato, M.D., M.S. is Director, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Program at the John Theurer Cancer Center. He joined the Cancer Center in 2009, bringing a world-class education and more than eight years of experience in internal medicine, hematology and oncology.
Dr. Mato offers an impressive background in research, which includes in-depth studies on hematologic malignancies. His research interest lies in lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic lymphoma. He has been extensively published in hematology and oncology journals such as Blood, Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, and Leukemia and Lymphoma. His research has been presented at international medical conferences, including the two of the largest in the world: the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. Dr. Mato has been the lead researcher for many of these studies. Dr. Mato currently reviews abstracts for the American Society of Hematology, and manuscripts for Cancer Biology and Therapy, American Journal of Hematology, and Annals of Internal Medicine.
Prior to joining John Theurer Cancer Center, Dr. Mato completed his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He received his medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo, School of Medicine and earned a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Mato is a graduate of Cornell University with a B.S. in biological sciences.
