Clinical Trials

John Theurer Cancer Center has more than 200 clinical trials across the 14 divisions. The Research team is actively involved in conducting cutting-edge research and enrolling patients in groundbreaking clinical trials. These clinical trials are conducted independently and in partnership with research pharmaceutical companies, patient advocacy groups, the National Institutes of Health, and through research consortiums sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, such as the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network, and Gynecologic Oncology Group.

Receive the Earliest Access to New Treatments
John Theurer Cancer Center’s Phase I research program represent the earliest opportunity for patients to access novel and promising treatments. These trials only enroll a small number of participants, usually 15 to 100 patients, most of whom have advanced cancer that has not responded to standard cancer treatments.

Dr. Martin Gutierrez, who has been involved in early drug discovery for nearly two decades at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other institutions, leads the Phase I Unit. Under Dr. Guiterrez’s leadership, John Theurer Cancer Center works closely with industry, the NCI and other academic institutions to expand its Phase I portfolio.
